Age-related changes in cognitive function

Cognitive performance is influenced by age. When you are are getting older, your cognitive performance is declining.

The graph below shows the changes to attentional performance during ageing. We can see that  reaction time substantially increases from the age of around 40 years.

Age-related changes in cognition are not uniform across all cognitive domains or across all older individuals.
Like other organs, the brain is subject to developmental changes. Each human being differs with regard to their level of age-related cognitive decline. Nevertheless, a common trend exists, wherein normal cognitive decline begins at the age of 20 years and continues until death even if not all functions are declining in the same way.
